Imagine the Rosary is an interactive, virtue-based program intended to engage Catholic elementary-level learners in one mystery of the rosary per day. This is accomplished through four lesson sections: Imagine, Connect, Pray, and Realize. This unit uses these techniques to explore the Joyful Mysteries and focuses on bravery, selflessness, peace, trust, and seeking Jesus.
In the "Imagine" section of each lesson, you will invite your students to visualize the scene of the mystery, aided by the story provided in the lesson plan. As your students already use their imaginations to engage with books, movies, games, and other media, imagining the biblical stories of the rosary will be familiar territory and help them to emotionally engage with the mystery.
With the story fresh in their minds, your students will be ready to "connect" to the people in the scene. Remembering how falling down at recess feels, your students can relate to Jesus’ falls during the Passion. Having been asked to do something they are scared to do, they can understand Mary’s bravery during the Annunciation. This step is facilitated by a list of questions that put the mystery into relatable terms for elementary school students.
Now that your students have a holistic and relatable understanding of the mystery, they are ready to pray. Tips such a singing the mystery, praying in a significant place for that mystery, and allowing each student to pray a Hail Mary for a specific intention are provided in the packet.
Praying with conviction inspires us to do big things for the God who loves us! The next step- "Realize"- allows your students to participate in each mystery in a physical way. "Realize" activities are 5 minute projects that will help your students to recognize the many ways God is calling them in every mystery!
