Imitation & Direction Prompt Cards & Activity Sheets for Special Education

Description
This listing is for “Imitation & Direction Prompt Cards together with Activity Sheets”.
“The skill of imitation serves as both a learning tool and a social strategy, its disruption is likely to have a profound effect on learning and development” Ingersoll 2008
Many children with autism and/or other additional needs have significant difficulty imitating across individuals, settings and situations. They may experience difficulty in imitating actions with objects, gestures, vocal imitation. An inability to imitate will lead to deficits in skills necessary for development and impact learning, including social communication.
Through the skill of imitation children learn to follow directions, participate in typical daily living skills, develop shared affect, express interest in a social partner, engage in turn taking, acquire new skills and new information.
This resource pack is created to help students learn to follow direction and imitate using the visual support of the Imitation Prompt Card together with verbal instruction (direction).
They are an ideal resource to use at circle time, for online learning, and in teletherapy. They are a prompt that can be faded out over time as the student’s imitation skills develop.
The inclusion of the activity sheets is to encourage the skill of sequencing. Once the student has mastered one step direction and imitation, move up to the two step directions by using two action prompt cards and so forth.
I have purposely included 8 different colours for the Action Cards. I am aware many class rooms use a colour key scheme for students and so I created a resource that may be beneficial in this regard.
I have included Colour and Plain Actions Cards to ensure students who may be over stimulated by colour are also able to use this resource.
Decide on your colour scheme. Print and laminate the actions cards. I have assigned 4 cards to each sheet. Cut out the cards until you have the appropriate amount of cards to meet your needs.
