Product Description
Included in this bundle are 4 activities that will help you teach immigration in grades 3-4 (this would work for grade 5, too, but the content may not be as high-level as you'd like). Included are book studies, a WebQuest, as well as a Poetry activity to teach about immigration and Ellis Island.

Included are the following:

*The Orphan of Ellis Island Literature Circle/Book Study- {Immigration Studies}
I don't have enough time in the day to teach everything, so I made it my goal to teach social studies through literature and chapter books. This packet includes questions to go with the Scholastic book, "The Orphan of Ellis Island." My kids love this book and it is definitely one of my favorite fictional books to teach during immigration studies.

*"I Am" Poem Immigration Activity Using Primary Sources
Students are asked to first look at six primary source photographs of children passing through Ellis Island. The kids will then choose a child to focus in on and write an "I Am" poem from this child's point of view.

*"Joshua's Song" Novel Study- Immigration/Child Labor Primary Sources Included
Joshua's Song, by Joan Hiatt Harlow, is the story of a Boston boy in 1919 forced to become a newsie after his father dies from the influenza epidemic. This is a great novel to tie in to studies of the northeast region, child labor laws, or the early 1900's.

*Immigration/Ellis Island Cloze Activity Web Quest- Grades 4-6
Researching skills in the late elementary grades is more important than ever. Finding credible sources, using the right key words to search, and getting specific information are all skills our kids need to be GREAT with.

Please let me know if you have any questions. :)
Happy Teaching!
