PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a fun way to have students learn about the two different waves of immigration. This lesson plan differentiates instruction either by ability levels as in the notes and the vocabulary or through the use of the Multiple Intelligence Theory as with the student choice activity session.

This is the content that is included in the lesson plan:

1. 2 Waves of immigration
2. Differences of Immigration Waves
3. Similarities of Immigrants
4. Push Factors and Pull Factors (includes a short demonstration activity)
5. Settlement
6. Acculturation
7. Varied Occupation and Political Backgrounds

These are the essential questions:

Why are there considered to be 2 waves of immigration and what is the difference between them?
What are the push factors?
What are the pull factors?
Where did different immigrant groups settle and why?
What did the immigrants add to the American culture?
What were the differences between immigrants when it came to politics and education?

These are the vocabulary words:

Immigration: when non-native people move and settle into a country
Assimilate: when immigrants accept and conform to the culture of where they settle
Acculturation: when the main culture accepts parts of another culture; usually from an immigrant population
Tradition: handing down beliefs and other parts of a culture from generation to generation
