As the final project for our immigration unit, students write an opinion editorial (op-ed) in which they argue a claim about an immigration topic of their choice. They provide evidence mostly gathered throughout our unit and attempt to persuade their readers to accept their claim.
Topic choices include: DREAM Act/DACA, Death in the Desert, Free Trade Agreements (TPP), Migrant children, and Immigration reform
They use all parts of the writing process, starting with brainstorming and then outlining. Paragraph 1-- Background on issue; Paragraph 2--Counter-claim; Paragraph 3--Rebuttal.
The articles students used to respond to in their op-eds are not included because current events change so frequently. This packet includes the assignment sheet, outline, organizer, and rubric.
