Skip all the research! This presentation was prepared for a Human Geography course based on the Rubenstein book, Ch. 3.
This presentation includes 8 slides going over the immigration process at each stage. Information on how to become a permanent resident, pathways undocumented immigrants may take to gain legal status, and the naturalization process is covered step by step with over 10 links to more information from the USCIS on forms and fees, legal guidelines, and the civics and English tests. Presentation concludes with details about Minnesota graduation requirements for high school students to pass the INS civics test and video of a naturalization ceremony in Minnesota.
Emphasis is placed on the cost and complexity of the immigration process in order to challenge stereotypes about immigrants who are seeking citizenship. Topic is approached around the central question: Could you become a naturalized citizen (had you not been born in the United States)? This product could also be used to instruct immigrants interested in gaining a basic understanding of the immigration process and the steps involved.
The presentation file is .ppt and fully editable.
