Are you looking for a unique assessment? This student-approved project is perfect to incorporate when teaching about culture and immigration! It requires students to research their country/culture of origin, interview an immigrant (either a family member or friend), and then take that information and design a t-shirt. After, you can host a class “Cultural Heritage Day” where students can show off their t-shirt. This project requires zero teacher preparation (student directions, hand-outs, presentation audience sheet, grading rubric, and student samples are all included)!
*Each student will need to bring in a white t-shirt and either some type of makers or paint. I have found that fabric makers and acrylic paint work best! In addition, you will need some type of sturdy surface to put in-between the t-shirt so students can draw/write on it without the markers/paint bleeding through. I have found that pieces of cardboard or manila folders work best.
The t-shirts make a beautiful hallway display by using either hangers or thumb tacks to hang them up!
