“Coming to America”--A Student Writing Project about Immigrating to the United States
This PDF contains materials to aid students in the process of writing a narrative piece from the point of view of an immigrant coming to America.
To aid the students in imaging this incredible journey, read non-fiction and historical fiction texts about individuals who have come to America.
Then distribute their own “visas”, assigning them names and countries they have “arrived” from. Work with the students to develop a profile of their new identity and journey to America on the brainstorming page.
Then students can move onto the writing packet and tell their story of “Coming to America”.
Included in this download is a Citizenship Test with an answer key. Students enjoy taking this real life test and can even include the results in their narrative.
Enjoy your journey!
