PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Immigration and Industrialization Bundle

Buy them both and save! This bundle includes both of my lessons for this unit – a DBQ on Immigration and a Gallery Walk on the Industrial Revolution. The price of these lessons combined is $11, but when you get them both at the same time – you save 20%!

Immigration

Dig deep into the content of the mid-1800’s while your students explore the essential question “How did immigrants contribute to the growth of the United States” through primary sources and background essays.

Students will begin this lesson with a hook – listening to the song “Don’t Bite the Hand That’s Feeding You” while they analyze the song for historical content and culture. They will then read a background essay and discuss three immigrant groups contributions to the United States – the Germans, the Irish and the Chinese. After they have completed the “Stop and Discuss” Questions embedded into the essay, they will analyze different primary sources on three different documents. An outline will then be used to guide students in the final step, writing an essay using the documents.

-AND-

Industrial Revolution

Discover the changes caused by the Industrial Revolution as students explore the essential question “What were the inventions that changed America?” through primary sources and background essays.

Students will begin this lesson with a hook where they discuss the most important invention of their lifetime. They will then read a background essay and discuss the positive and negative effects of the Industrial Revolution. After they have completed the discussion questions embedded into the essay, students will learn about the different inventions of the Industrial Revolution through a gallery walk activity. They will be given a primary source quote, match the quote to the invention, and then read, discuss and take notes on the different inventions. Students complete the activity by creating a spectrum ranking the different inventions.
