America is a land of immigrants. Most Americans can trace their ancestry back to an immigrant, and 40% of Americans can directly trace their ancestry back to Ellis Island!
The first major wave of immigration to the United States took place between the years of 1600-1790. People came for a variety of reasons - some voluntarily, and some involuntarily.
