This brief primary source worksheet features a letter from Ethiopian Emperor Menelik II to the Europeans meeting for the Berlin Conference in 1884 regarding Imperialism and the "Scramble for Africa".
The resource includes an introduction with background information on Emperor Menelik II, the Battle of Adwa, and Ethiopia's victory against the invading Italian army. The primary source letter from Menelik requests help from the European powers gathered at the Berlin Conference, where they would go on to divide up Africa for themselves.
