This resource is something I created out of frustration with the lack of pre-slavery and non-MLK/Ruby Bridges/Rosa Parks black history in the primary grades. As I told my partner - "I'll create my own damn black history resources, then."
This is by no means comprehensive or perfect! I've used what I know about history and about elementary reading to create some short passages about important people in black activists. There are passages for:
-Misty Copeland (an excerpt from her autobiography)
-Wangari Muta Maathai
+ activities for Michelle Obama's #gimmefive campaign
+ questions to consider
