Product Description
The reading passages included in this resource are written by me and are at a F&P Level L. This resource is something I created out of frustration with the lack of pre-slavery and non-MLK/Ruby Bridges/Rosa Parks black history in the primary grades. As I told my partner - "I'll create my own damn black history resources, then."

This is by no means comprehensive or perfect! I've used what I know about history and about elementary reading to create some short passages about important people in black artists. There are passages for:

-Chinua Achebe (Nigerian author)
-Maya Angelou
-Mulatu Astatke (Ethio-Jazz musician)
-Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
-Billie Holiday
-Wole Soyinka
-Gerard Sekoto (South African Artist)

+ black and white version AND color version
+ full page color copy of one of Sekoto's works
+ questions to consider about art and artists
