This resource is something I created out of frustration with the lack of pre-slavery black history in the primary grades. As I told my partner - "I'll create my own damn black history resources, then."
This is by no means comprehensive or perfect! I've used what I know about history and about elementary reading to create some short passages about important people in pre-slavery African history. There are passages for
-King Oni of Nigeria,
-Queen Makeda (of Sheba) from Ethiopia,
-and Mansa Musa for Mali.
-primary sources and maps for each
--> There is one coloring activity sheet that asks kids to color in the countries they just read about. The cover can also be used as a coloring activity!
