In this PowerPoint presentation, students are introduced to Impressionism and its artists. Students are also enlightened as to why some scholars believe the artists of Impressionism began to paint and draw in a more abstracted fashion - the camera. Students will see some of the earliest photography and will discuss how that invention had a lasting impact on art. They will also be introduced to several Impressionistic artists: Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Auguste Renior, Mary Cassatt, Camille Pissaro and George Seurat. After the lecture students are instructed to make their own Impressionistic work using pastels and the techniques of Impressionism.
