This superbly designed Powerpoint centers on the art style known as Impressionism. The lesson starts with a Do Now for students to begin thinking about what they see, practicing the description portion of art criticism.
Students are introduced to the major characteristics of Impressionism as well as three major artists including Monet, Renoir, and Degas. Students are able to view and discuss a number of Impressionist paintings, understanding the styles of each artist and Impressionism as a whole. At the end of the presentation, there is an informal quiz to check for student understanding. They may answer independently or work as a group. Lastly, students are asked to reflect on their lesson, making a judgment on the style as a whole. More importantly they are asked to back up their opinion with valid reasons.
