During a time when there weren’t many famous American artists, and there were even fewer famous women artists, Mary Cassatt created beautiful works of art that are still well-known today!
Begin introducing middle school art classes to French Impressionism with this lecture about Mary Cassatt’s life and art. Students will be able to follow along with this art history lesson easily with the lecture note printouts. (There is an answer key for the notes for the instructor’s reference.) To incorporate what the students just learned, teach them how to make a copy of an artwork by Mary Cassatt with crayons, oil pastels and chalk pastels by using the “Mary Cassatt Revisited” lesson plan. The “Mary Cassatt Revisited Demonstration and Tips” PowerPoint shows the entire project from start to finish with on screen text describing the steps. Use the rubric to grade the mixed media projects. There are 16 small prints included for students to choose from to copy for their art projects.
Since not all students work at the same pace, 3 Mary Cassatt word finds are included for early finishers. (Answer keys for the word finds are included.)
This download includes 2 PowerPoint presentations: “Impressionism with Mary Cassatt” and “Mary Cassatt Revisited Demonstration and Tips.” This download also includes 3 PDF, which include: “Impressionism with Mary Cassatt” lesson plan, “Impressionism with Mary Cassatt” blank lecture notes, “Impressionism with Mary Cassatt” answer key lecture notes, “Mary Cassatt Revisited” lesson plan, “Mary Cassatt Revisited” rubrics, 3 pages of 5” Mary Cassatt prints to print and laminate, and “Mary Cassatt Word Find” sheets plus answer keys.
