Learning targets: Students will demonstrate proficiency in second person point of view narration; students will grow more comfortable with timed impromptu writing.
How: Students will compose a narrative in which they exercise second person point of view, taking the reader ("you") on an adventure; students will be given a specific duration in which to complete this activity.
Materials included: 1. A detailed directions sheet. 2. A prewriting handout. 3. A general evaluative rubric. All are WORD DOCUMENTS.
You may wish to tweak the documents to reflect your students' specific needs.
I find brief writing activities like this are especially useful in Creative Writing classes, for they emphasize core concepts in the field, but they also prime students for timed writing assessments. Further, an activity like this may make a great formative to determine students' capabilities in second person point of view narration.
