This product from Emily's Post will teach your students how to stop rambling in their writing, using a fun game that gets kids out of their seats. Each slide comes with notes on how to present the lesson to students. After learning about the dangers of rambling and how to prevent it, students will categorize slides into rambling or not rambling by moving to one side of the room or the other. You will need a bag of prizes for this lesson: candy, pencils, bookmarks, and small plastic toys were a big hit in my class. Although I don't believe in extrinsic awards, this is a game for learning and practice that introduces information, so the prizes make the learning fun! You can have students practice writing their own examples and non-examples for a peer to categorize, if you wish to extend this lesson.
