Improve Text-Based Essays Using the TEACH Method

Are you teaching upper elementary or middle school students to write evidenced-based essays, like DBQs, or preparing for a state writing test like FSA? Try using the TEACH method to help students understand how to add evidence and analysis to support their opinion or thesis statement.

The TEACH method uses a memorable acronym to help students remember the key parts of their essay. As students master supporting their topics with specific text evidence, teachers can increase the required amount of evidence or the essay length .

TEACH is NOT a formula - it will not box students in to a specific writing style. TEACH is a method - a way to emphasis the importance of evidence and analysis to prove an opinion or a thesis statement.

If you want to try the TEACH method, a TEACH Writing Center is available in my TPT store.
