This lesson was created as part of my Author’s Purpose unit. It teaches students to think critically about written response. This activity is designed for a one-hour language arts class. I have finished this lesson in one day and then used their homework to extend the lesson/form small groups for extra help with open-ended responses during future lessons. My students have always enjoyed this activity. They enjoy working in groups and discussing the responses. I created the scoring rubric using the Common Core State Standards for 3rd-5th grade writing.
