What educators are saying

This was a fun way to get my EL students talking and we also used it for writing. The topics were very engaging. Thanks!
I used this with my Speaking and Listening program. It helped the students with their questioning skills.

Description

What in the world is this resource about speaking and listening--and why is "Accountable Talk" such a buzzword these days? With the increased need for students to learn to have quality academic discussions and to be comfortable speaking in front of others, I wanted to create a fun way for students to gain confidence when speaking about different topics.

Want to have students practice in a morning meeting? In small groups? With partners? As a formal public speaking exercise? As a prewriting experience? You can use this resource for all of these!

I wanted to design a resource that could be used in countless ways…I will give you some suggestions, but I am CONFIDENT that you will be able to come up many other uses as well! Use all year long in different ways to build student confidence and skills.

What is included?

  • 140 Discussion prompt cards in three categories
  1. Personal narratives (to build the idea of telling stories with characters, a logical sequence, and feelings) 32 cards
  2. Opinions (to help students state an opinion and defend it clearly with examples) 32 cards
  3. Just a word (or 2) (to let students speak in ANY genre on a topic) Also included is "Just a word (or 2)" CHALLENGE (these topics are more challenging and may be more appropriate for older students) 24 cards
  • A variety of reproducibles, posters, and checklists to help you teach key concepts to guide your students as they speak--and even translate to writing!
  • Suggestions for use in your classroom

I hope you and your students enjoy this resource!
