This in an activity I do in class to practice recognition of Preterite Tense verbs in Spanish using the song "Todo Cambió" by Camila (YouTube).
This is what I typically do for the lesson. First, I do a listening challenge game between the two or three different class periods. Before handing out the lyrics page, I have students listen to the song (if the music video is appropriate, I let them watch it as they listen). I tell them to write down all the Preterite tense verbs that they hear. When the song is over, students raise their hands and tell me all the words they heard. I total them up and write the number on the board next to their class period, then cover it up so the other classes don't know what the score to beat is (just to be fair). The class that hears the most words wins a prize.
After doing the listening competition, I hand out this lyrics page with the blanks and the word bank. I play the song again (this time without the video so that students focus on reading along with the music) and students try to fill in all the blanks correctly.
After going over the correct answers to the blanks, I pick out some of the interesting lyrics and ask for volunteers to try to translate them.
We usually finish by talking about what type of song it is and what the general idea of the lyrics is.
