This is a ready-to-use, 48 page packet for teachers to use with their 4th-7th grade students who are reading In Harm's Way, the fourth book in the Benjamin Pratt & the Keepers of the School series written by Andrew Clements. The major component in this packet is the master for creating a 22 page student booklet (yes, an answer key is also included!) which is designed to provide the student with a weekly guide that consists of the reading assignment for the week along with questions and activities to be independently completed during the week, either at home or in the classroom. Ideally, the assignment will be discussed and reviewed in a weekly literature circle setting (some classes might call this a book club meeting, novel study group, or a reading group). The student booklet can be used with small groups of students who have chosen to read this particular book or with an entire class where all students are reading the same book.
Skills addressed in the student booklet support Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for both reading and writing. Skills presented and practiced include vocabulary work, comprehension, questioning, evaluating, clarifying, inferring, character comparison and traits, and recognizing theme. Students are given many opportunities to write; tasks include both long and short written responses as well as writing a summary and doing research.
NOTE:I have created reading workbooks for all five books in this series: We The Children
, Fear Itself
, The Whites of Their Eyes
, In Harm's Way

Benjamin Pratt & The Keepers of the School:
In Harm's Way, Book 4 …in a Nutshell:
The suspense of Andrew Clements' Keepers of the School series continues to build in this second-to-the-last book. Ben, Jill, and Robert continue on toward their goal of saving their school from demolition by unraveling the meaning of the safeguards left by Captain Oakes. At one point, Ben is certain that his life is about to end as he becomes trapped by Lyman, that creepy custodian, and his new cohort, Wally, who seems to have eyes on the back of his head!
Warning: this is the fourth book in a suspenseful five book series. Readers will enjoy this much more if they have read the previous three books. If the reader believes this book is complete in and of itself, he/she will be disappointed! The teacher/parent would be wise to have on hand copies of the other books in the series if they have a student who has not read the previous books.
Appropriate for students in grades 4-7.
