The activity in this resource is designed to help students make connections between what they are learning in math class and the real world. Students will have the opportunity to use the skills they have gained in math class and use them towards real scenarios. In this case, your students will have the opportunity to determine whether their chosen profession will provide them with a comfortable way of life, in terms of affording everything they will need to survive. Your students will enjoy this activity while strengthening their number sense skills in a very real way!
I typically use this activity as a culminating/assessment activity towards the end of the year. It covers a range of math concepts and number sense skills.
Within this project students will need to research the salary of their chosen profession and use current prices to determine whether they will be able to afford all the items they will need in order to live comfortably, such as a house, car, food, etc.
