This is a FUN lesson on a REAL-WORLD problem. You will see your students being excited and engaged to figure out the exact price of 100by100 burger.
With the attached Power point slides, the teacher will introduce menus of In-N-Out burger. The slides are very visual with pictures of foods and menu. Students will quickly be engaged.
After showing ingredients and prices of Cheeseburger and Double-double, the teacher will introduce secret menu such as 3 by 3, or 4 by 4. 3 by 3 burger has 3 beef patties, 3 slices of cheese, and other common ingredients such as lettuce, tomato, and onion.
Toward the end of the presentation about In-N-Out burger's menu, the students will be asked a challenging question: How much is the price of 100 by 100? (a burger with 100 beef patties and 100 slices of cheese with common ingredients).
Students will work in groups (groups of 2~4) and figure out the price. They may not answer all prompting questions on the handout during this discussion, but they must have reasoning behind their answers.
After the group discussion, the teacher will facilitate a whole class discussion. Each group shares their findings and compare each other's findings. The teacher will show them the last two pages of the slides, which has the actual receipt of the 100 by 100.
