Everyone gets better at doing something by practicing a little bit every day. What works for sports and music holds true for writing as well.
"In The Write Direction - Daily Writing Prompts" gives your 3rd to 6th grade students an opportunity to write - everyday. This kit focuses on the three areas of writing included in the Common Core State Standards - informative, narrative and opinion. The prompts are designed to give students a topic to consider and then write about in a work time of 5-15 minutes. The purpose is to give students a short opportunity to write every day.
Each 5” x 2” black and white prompt is set up with 8 prompts to a single sheet for easy printing. If you would rather have your students copy the prompt from your interactive white board then you can use the included larger format .PDF prompts for projecting onto a board.
The kit is organized into sections according to writing purpose: informative, narrative and opinion. Both the small and large prompt files are organized identically with table of contents and page numbers to make correlating them simple.
The 30 informative prompts focus primarily on considering a topic and then writing ideas and information clearly. Many of the prompts urge students to write events in a sequence.
The 30 narrative prompts primarily focus on describing characters and settings, writing conclusions and writing dialogue.
The 30 opinion prompts focus on clearly stating a personal opinion and supporting a point of view with reasons.
