Attendance is an important component of the educational process. Without good attendance, a child's education is, at best, littered with gaps in instruction. At the beginning of each year, I use this letter to remind parents of the attendance expectations, procedure to call a student in to the office, and help them avoid truancy actions. I usually publish this letter in the school newsletter, also. When I teach my lesson on attendance in guidance class, this letter is sent home with the students. Additionally, since I do the truancy for the school, I also use this letter when I have to send home letters regarding truancy matters. You can see that this ONE communication tool helps me over and over every school year.
This very useful letter is such a great communication tool! It can be personalized and customized for your school and your rules. Then change the date, and you can use it again next year and the year after that and so on!
I also use this for the "Back to School" presentation to distribute to parents at the beginning of the year as well as have it in the enrollment packet. As you can see, parents have NO excuse for poor attendance by their children.
