This is a computational activity based on my book's research project, the computation of pi, which is defined as the area of a unit circle.
It contains a surprising result--maybe, a new mathematical discovery--which can be seen in the output of a small program in Microsoft Small Basic. No previous programming experience is required for the activity. Until the end, a simple calculator is used, until it becomes clear that it is much easier to write a few lines of code. Color cues are used throughout the paper in order to make the results more visual.
