This in-depth collaborative research project uses students to teach their peers about the major phyla of invertebrates. New common core standards include speaking and listening standards and a strong research component. This project would be the ideal cross-curricular project to help Language Arts teachers address the speaking, listening and research standards while incorporating student’s content area life science knowledge.
This download includes the project directions and a rubric for the student’s presentations. This project is designed to be used as a class presentation, but it wouldn’t take much for a Language Arts teacher to use the student’s invertebrate knowledge to create a research paper that would address the common core research standards.
In addition to using common core Language Arts speaking and listening standards, this project also contains an arts component. Students are required to make a 3D model of an animal from the phyla.
The preview of this assignment includes the rubric and some pictures of 3D models my students have created in the past.
