Do you want your students to read independently but you don't know exactly how to hold them accountable for it? Here is the solution! This easy to follow calendar includes one month of short journal entries which students can write about as they read their book of choice. Topics include character and conflict development, plot events, making text-to-self-connections, and vocabulary exercises, among others.
This project is very versatile. You could use it for a class novel, literature circles or independent reading. The "final project" mentioned in some of the dates is meant to be student choice. I give them some options such as creating a poster or PowerPoint about different aspects of the book, or creating a diorama or board game about the settings, or writing a book review. Basically, they create something to share with the class.
This calendar could also supplement my independent reading project for sale at my store, or work by itself.
