Using IDR in the classroom will allow your students to choose & read books based on their interests & preferences. You will work with your students to set goals that make them excited about & engaged in reading. With an IDR binder, students will track the books and genres they read, set and work toward goals, and and responses to reading in a variety of ways.
These documents will allow you to simply open, print, & add them to the binder. There are 3 main sections: Reading Logs, Goals, & Reading Response. Each section has documents that will guide you & your students in having a successful IDR program & binder.
There is also an explanation document that gives a little more background about how the binder works & where the documents go. This can be customized to your students & what works best for you.
Having IDR in my classroom has been the best decision I made for independent reading. My students are engaged & are in control of their own reading & responding. Their binders allow me access into their reading as well!
