I created this project as a way to get students to read on their own in preparation for the AP Lit exam, but to give them more freedom and ownership in what they choose to read. The project describes many different novels they can choose from, then requires a one-on-one meeting to discuss the book and choose a writing prompt (taken from AP English Literature's open-ended questions on the exam). These writing prompts will be expanded into a full paper, for which I included a rubric. Each file is available in PDF and Microsoft Office (Word & PowerPoint) and personalization is highly encouraged!
Please note: The novels on this list were chosen because they were deemed of literary merit (by the College Board, myself, or both) and because I have personally read them. There are numerous titles that could be added to this list, but I don't feel comfortable conferencing about books that I haven't read myself. It is strongly encouraged that if you use this project in your own classroom that you customize the reading list to your own chosen titles that you have read and find worthy of study. This is why customization is so highly encouraged!
