Use this resource as course work when students are reading a novel on their own, or in small groups. Included are activities that encourage analysis of several literary elements, including characters, setting, and plot.

There are activities during reading, like analyzing the setting and characters, creating a glossary of vocabulary terms, and chapter summaries.

There are also several different end of the book project options available to students to choose from.

By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the grades 6–8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.
Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of a specific word choice on meaning and tone.
