This is a great assignment to use at any time of the year. The students get to pick a book that they are interested in, and enjoy reading, at their own level and then complete this book talk as a final assessment. I have sustained reading time in my class daily, and use this as an assessment to keep them accountable in their reading. It is also a great tool for kids to see different books that they might be interested in, or get/give suggestions to their peers.
For the book talk I put the students in groups of 3-4. Each student has 4 minutes to present their book, and once the timer goes off their group members get 2 minutes to complete the peer feedback sheet. Then the next goes.
I use the rubric to assess their planning page and script ( which they must hand in to me after the book talk).
