Product Description
This independent novel study requires students to read Elie Wiesel's memoir Night and apply six specific characterization methods used by authors to Wiesel's development and revelation of characters in his story. After students have learned the characterization methods and applied them to the text, they will then learn about the genre conventions of Coming-of-Age and apply three conventions meaningfully to Wiesel's memoir.

Because the memoir itself is quite short (nine chapters), I have found students can reasonably accomplish this assignment within 1-2 weeks. I will give the occasional reading "check" quiz to check for comprehension every few chapters.
