This is an activity I created for students in place of the traditional book report. It is a six page packet with different activities aligned to meet various CCLS.
Page One - "Playlist". The students will create a mock playlist for a character in their book as the character progresses throughout the book.
Page Two - "Inbox" The students will create an inbox for a character in the book that would highlight the main ideas presented within a text.
Page Three: "facebook" The students will answer the question: "What was the author's purpose in adding the _____ lines within the text." Students will write through the author's point of view.
Page Four: "facebook" The students will answer the question: "How does the character's actions add to their development" by creating a facebook status update.
Page Five: "facebook" The students will answer the question: "How does the setting affect the mood of the story" by creating a status update from the author's point of view.
Page Six: "Text Message" The students will write a text message to the main character emphasizing some aspect of the climax of the story. They will add Emojis here.
I used this assignment with my seventh grade students. The tasks being asked of the students are based from the Common Core. It is a creative way to meet the standards. Students are given the opportunity to answer short response type questions in a more fun way. It is set up to model the actual activities on an iPhone. I had the students complete the task to assess a pleasure reading requirement.
The students really enjoyed completing this. Some students got very creative! I hope you find this useful.
