Independent reading accountability can be tricky, since you want your students to fall in love with reading and NOT feel like you are breathing down their necks.
Check in with your student readers with this fun and quick activity. Have them create Instagram posts for their free choice reading books, either drawing or printing/glueing in an image, then briefly reviewing their books with captions and adding creative hashtags to describe them. "Post" their Instagram posts somewhere in your room, to help your community of readers find their next books.
This type of check-in keeps the focus on sharing their books with the classroom community, so your independent reading program continues to be about building a love of reading, not earning a grade. At the same time, it will allow you to get a better sense of who is really reading, so you can have a conversation with the kids who are struggling and help them find books that are better suited for them.
This is a brand new product for me, so if you and your students enjoy it, please consider leaving a review! Your review helps other teachers find this activity AND earns you credit towards future TPT purchases (yay!).
This activity is also part of my full independent reading program, a solid, year-long solution to the "I hate reading" problem. I think you're going to love it!
