These reading response activities are based in Vygotsky’s theory of learning.

The student will be able to expand their learning by talking about their ideas, predictions, word survey, comparisons, questions, problems & solutions with a teacher. (the most knowledgeable other - MKO)

The activities are set up so the 1:1 MKO conference takes place at the halfway point of the book to facilitate a thoughtful discussion about the book.

As I Read
As students read they should make notes about ideas or predictions they may have.

Sight Word Survey
As students read they should record the sight words in a short story or book. Make a sheet for every book and create an original sight word book.


Words I Don’t Yet Know
As students read, they should note words they don't know and use the context to think about what they might mean. At the halfway point of the book, attend a 1:1 conference in which they discuss the words.

I Wonder
As students read, they should formulate questions about the text. At the halfway point of the book, attend a 1:1 conference in which they discuss the book and their questions.

Compare and Contrast
As students read, they should identify two characters/items/or ideas in the story and compare and contrast them. At the halfway point of the book, attend a 1:1 conference in which they discuss their comparisons


Finding The Solution
As students read, they should identify problem/s (and the solutions) in the story. At the halfway point of the book, attend a 1:1 conference in which they discuss the book and the problems within the story line.
