Do your students choose a book for independent reading, read it for FIVE minutes and then ask if they can choose another book? Do you inwardly cringe knowing that this cycle is going to be on repeat for the rest of the year? Then this little gem of a worksheet is for you!
Take the kids to the library and have them "speed date." I like to take my kids to the library, have them use this worksheet to get the gist of several books, rate each book, and then choose the one (or two) book(s) they are most interested in. I also preface it with an example as well as the disclaimer that if they choose to switch the book after the speed dating activity they must do so on their own time. I find that this activity makes the endless book switching DISAPPEAR! Enjoy.
