"Across the grade levels, teachers should provide daily
opportunities for leisure reading. They should model fiction
and nonfiction book selection, conference with students
during SSR, and hold students accountable for their reading
(Reutzel, Fawson, & Smith, 2008). Teachers should provide
time for students to talk with peers or perhaps blog or write
reflections about what they have been reading, a practice
that enhances students’ enjoyment and understanding of
texts, as well as their sense of accountability for engaging
in independent reading" (p. 2).
