“I Can Read Daily for Fluency and Understanding”
Page 2-3 Copy 2 sided and students cut around the book and fold in half. Then glue the back to the journal. Left side- Students track their growth & reading level through out the year. Right side- With students, develop the independent reading routines for your classrooms; ex. Borrowing books from the classroom library.

“E Book Sites” & “Target Reading Goals”
Page 5- Copy 1 sided. “E Book Sites”-Fold the flap and glue the flap to the journal. Students record favorite websites for quick access to E books. Cut a slit in the ring of the target and glue the target to journal. Cut the arrows out and write personal reading goals on the arrows. Slip the arrows through the slit on the target.

“Emoji Bookmarks”
Page 6- Cut out the question emoji and fold the sides to create a pocket. Glue the sides of the pocket to journal. Cut out the other emoji-cons and place in the pocket Students use the emoji’s as a bookmark when reading and to signal how they are feeling about the text.

“Reading Log”
Page 7- Students cut out the dog and bone and glue to journal. Students draw 3 columns under the dog bone and log their independent reading daily.

“Teacher Feedback”
Page 7-8-Use the dog house to leave teacher comments for students after conferencing or checking on student progress. Have students cut around the door of the dog house and glue to journal. Writing the feedback for students on the dog bones, is quick and easy. Copy the completed bones to save for record keeping. Then, cut the bones and tuck them into the students’ dog houses.
