Do you ever worry that your students are not reading during silent reading time? I created this document (containing boxes for 8 days) for students to use to respond to their reading after silent reading time each day. Each day asks a different question or asks students to respond in a different way. Skills covered include main idea, summarizing, prefixes/suffixes, character traits, setting, making connections, and even illustrating.
I have my students look at the box for the day BEFORE READING, allowing them to set a purpose for reading. This has REALLY helped my students stay on task during this time. When all eight boxes are filled in, students turn these logs in to me for a grade.
