Independent Reading Management System/Book Nooks
Students are placed in five "colored" groups and each group has a designated reading spot (beach chairs, table, pillow, and carpet). The designated reading spots rotate daily in a circular pattern. A poster is made and laminated for each day of the week (magnets are placed on the back so it can stick to the whiteboard).
Another poster is titled, "Library Schedule" this also list a daily rotation where two groups visit the library each day and each group visits twice a week.
Students in my classroom automatic change the poster on the board each day before independent reading time. I have noticed that some students do not sit in their appropriate spots however, if they do not disturb others I do not mind as long as they are reading. I find that this system teaches students how to quietly choose a reading spot without causing conflicts and disruptions in the room.
