Independent Reading Packet

Description
NOW is the perfect time to encourage independent reading.
Students who do not read for pleasure often fall substantially behind their classmates who do read books of their own choice.
Reading success is cumulative, as is reading deficit and decline.
When we practice anything, whether it be golf, basketball, knitting, or reading, we get better at it. Today’s students need to appreciate the joys of choosing your own subject matter to read--something they don't often get to do in today's busy school year.
Designed for easy use by teachers and parents, this packet includes:
1. Instructions for use
2. Parent Letter
3. High level comprehension questions
4, Blog Post Links from Reading Spotlight that include links to good book lists
5. Independent Reading Record Sheet
Only one question has to be answered, but all questions are based on educational research about what actually motivates kids to read more.
The set also includes free or inexpensive ideas for parents and teachers to use as incentives because everyone needs a little bit of encouragement sometimes.
It is a simple redesign of Reading Spotlight’s Summer Reading Packet, eliminating the “summer“ aspect.
