This is a 26 page document that makes it easy to establish an independent reading plan in your classroom.
The plan contains three projects, each based on a text of the student's choice. Three types of texts are required for this independent reading plan: A novel, a non-fiction text and poetry. Various tasks are required for each text (student printables are included). Projects are engaging for students such as creating a "glog" (check out www.glogster.com if you don't know what glogs are) choosing a topic to investigate and present on, and poetry analysis.
Many Language Arts outcomes can be addressed through this independent reading plan, such as: Writing a book review, research skills, summarizing, note taking, using graphic organizers, exploring story elements, etc. You can easily alter the plan to focus on the outcomes that you need to address. The plan can also be modified or differentiated to meet the needs of all of your learners.
