Reading should be fun!
Here is a project sheet for a book where students write journals on a book they are reading (that they choose!). It counts as a test grade.
Then for a quiz grade, students talk about their books, Reading Rainbow style.
See the clip for an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQG6AR5diPw&list=PLNQMc9Y3J7i7kbmhMSYFrO_RP7mhqynZ0
If students read a book, they are rewarded by getting an easy test grade and quiz grade. The book talks encourage students to read. There is even an alternative assignment for students too shy to present to the class.
I have used this in both a private school and an inner city school with excellent results. My students have said that using this has "tricked" them into reading for fun.
Once you download this, you'll have four blanks to complete on the form. The first two are right under the title, (I typically put the school year and my name), and then two for the 1st and 2nd quarter due dates (this is designed for semester classes.) Then you have a completely customized reading project!
