My students practice their independent reading by choosing books, and then doing "book chats" with myself or a parent helper. All you
need are the questions and answers, and some lined paper so
you know what book each student has. Super easy! Book chats can be done in just 2/3 minutes, the student picks a new book, gets a reward (classroom tickets), and chooses a new book. During
silent reading, I make sure and do the chats at least 1/2 times a
week, so I can make sure all students have a book at their reading level, and are making progress with it. My students and parents
love this program, and I prefer it over answering questions on the computer. My students LOVE to talk, talk, talk about their books.
Hope you enjoy!
