I searched Teachers Pay Teachers for the perfect independent reading rubric and could not find one. Here you will find my own creation (MS Word Doc.available upon request)! This is a revised rubric**(see below for further details)
My students need to read 20 minutes each night, complete a reading log, and write in response to a reading prompt. This is the rubric I use when I conference with students each quarter to evaluate their progress. It is perfect to use with parents to show their child's progress.
I hope you find it helpful.
Please visit my store to find a new document (6 pages) including the reading response prompts and journaling pages I use with my students. It's all here for you to create independent reading booklets for your students!
You may find my original rubric here:
**This new version has an added focus on the completion of written journal response entries. Before, students still had the potential to earn a grade of 80%, even if they did not do the written responses. Now, the default scoring, in 3 of the categories, accounts for the attention students need to give the written responses as well. Justification to students is that these 3 categories are not easily assessed without evidence from written entries.
