This is a student-centered, self-paced, student-driven project covering fiction reading, writing, and research for 6th grade and up. Ambitious 5th grade groups may be able to make it work.
Student-centered? Self-paced? Sounds great, but let's be realistic... Well, guess what? I am being realistic! This IS possible! You can incorporate this into your classroom however you wish, but I like to incorporate it with general reading time. This will help your students choose books based on personal interest, research the topic, expand their thinking and knowledge, and dig deep into something that they are really interested in! You can use this with ANY topic, ANY book, ANY way you choose! This unit is expandable. It can be as extensive or as brief as you want it to be. It is not meant to be a separate unit from your normal curriculum, but an ongoing self-paced individual "unit" to work on within your regular classroom, during down time, and at home.
